Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Direction Immigration is in charge of:

  • Legislation;
  • Foreign and Security Policy
  • Passports and visas
  • Asylum, including refugee status and subsidiary protection status;
  • National, European and international immigration and asylum policy, and

 

Specifically, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum is responsible for:

  • National, European, and international policy on immigration and asylum
  • Free movement of persons and immigration
  • Entry and residence of foreigners
  • International protection
  • Return of illegal immigrants
  • Granting of stateless person status
  • Travel documents for immigrants
  • Relations with NGOs
  • Retention centres for asylum seekers
  • Management of the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration
  • Housing for the reception of immigrants
  • The cooperation with international organisations and NGOs.
  • Detention centres;
  • Granting stateless status;

 

The Ministry of Family and Integration is in charge of:

  • Foreigner integration;
  • Social action in favour of foreigners;
  • The Luxembourg Acceptation and Integration Office;
  • Acceptance centres for asylum seekers, and
  • National Council for foreigners.
