Central

The Minister of Interior are in charge of:

  • Civil protection services;
  • International cooperation on civil protection;
  • Rescue services administration, including organisation, administration, instruction;
  • The management of rescue services units;
  • Coordination in emergency matters;
  • The organisation, composition, functioning and definition of missions relating to fire and rescue, and
  • Controlling local authorities' fire and rescue departments.


 

Local

As a a mandatory requirement, local authorities are responsible for the creation or maintenance of local fire and rescue departments. They are likewise responsible for emergency services, and for police matters together with the State.
