Morocco Culture


Central Government

Parliament is responsible for

  • adopting framework laws on the fundamental objectives of the cultural activity of the state.
     

The Minister for Culture is responsible for:

  • preparing and implementation government policy relating to heritage, cultural and artistic development;
  • Coordinating actions and stakeholders aimed at strengthening the national cultural fabric;
  • developing an integrated strategy for cultural development with local and provincial stakeholders;
  • Creating and managing and cultural institutions;
  • Encouraging business innovation and research in cultural and artistic fields;
  • Establishing cooperative relations associations of cultural and artistic in Morocco and abroad; 
  • Conducting studies in the cultural and artistic fields. 

The Ministry for Tourism is responsible for developing, implement and evaluate the strategy for tourism and working with the Ministry of culture.
 
The Ministry of Urban Development and Land of the national territory is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs to promote the quality and safety of buildings and urban landscape, rehabilitation and conservation of architectural heritage, in coordination with the departments concerned.

 

Regional Level

Regions are responsible for:

  • Preserving cultural, archaeological and heritage sites, promoting festivals and events;
  • Enhancing of regional heritage, 
  • Maintaining monuments, 
  • Managing of cultural institutions.

 

Local Government​

 

Municipalities are responsible for:

 

  • Supporting the preservation of local culture and cultural activities;
  • Contributing toto the establishment, maintenance and management of socio-cultural and sports facilities (e.g. municipal libraries, museums, etc.
  • exercises the powers which may be transferred to it by the state, particularly in the area of protection and restoration of historical monuments and cultural heritage;
  • propose to the state and other legal entities governed by public law measures to be undertaken to promote the cultural development of the municipality once these measures exceed its remit or resources or those available to it.
