Actions taken by municipalities in response to the Covid-19 epidemic

Slovenian municipalities have taken different measures to help alleviate the situation caused by Covid-19 in Slovenia. To respond to the epidemic, which was officially declared in mid-March and ended at the end of May 2020, the municipalities took the following actions (depending on the municipality):

  • provision of free meals
  • food delivery to vulnerable groups
  • provision of essential child-minding services
  • implementation of movement restrictions
  • free public parking
  • provision of psychological support to residents
  • issuing instructions to residents to relieve the pressure on healthcare facilities
  • disinfection
  • waiving or postponing the payment of municipal taxes, charges, rents
  • organisation of volunteer groups

Now that the restrictions are gradually being lifted, the municipalities are coordinating their exit and recovery strategies at different levels to ensure a harmonised approach.
