Immigration and asylum
Central The central Government is responsible for:
- Consideration of and decisions on citizenship issues;
- Implementation of the state policy in the fields of:
- Migration;
- Citizenship;
- Visas;
- Granting asylum and the refugee status.
- The legal status of foreigners in the Republic of Lithuania is administered by the Migration Department under the Ministry of Interior.
Local
Local authorities are responsible for:
- Providing social assistance
to aliens who have been granted asylum;
- Cooperating
with state institutions and agencies to help them with integrating aliens;
- Providing the Migration Department with information
related to the aliens that is required to discharge its functions when determining
the aliens’ legal status in the Republic of Lithuania.
