Tunisia - Environment and fight against climate change

Central

​Environment policy is established and implemented at national level by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development. This covers environment and sustainable development, prevention og hazards, ecotourism, biodiversity, urban environment, and regional environment. The Commission for Sustainable Development and the Rights of Future Generations shall be consulted on draft laws related to economic, social and environmental issues, as well as development plans.

Climate change
This area is within the remit of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development and is managed at national level.

The National Council against Desertification is part of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development and was set up to coordinate national action against desertification. It is chaired by the minister.

Decree No 2005-1747 of 13 June 2005 establishing a National Council against desertification. Article 1 of this decree establishes a National Council against desertification which is attached to the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development and established in the capacity of national coordination body.
