Malta Tourism policy

 Central level

The Ministry for Tourism is responsible for:

  • Promotion of tourism in the country;
  • Regulation of tourism services and operations;
  • Issuance of licenses;
  • Planning and development of the tourism industry, including necessary infrastructure (i.e. external transport and aviation);
  • Public Private Partnerships in the area of tourism.

The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), which falls under the responsibility of the Ministry for Tourism, is in charge of creating and fostering relationships with all tourism stakeholders, as well as:

  • Advising Government on tourism operations and to issue licences under the Act;
  • Improving the level of human resources in the tourism industry;
  • Advising Government on the planning and development of the tourism industry and supporting infrastructure.

 

Local ​level

The Local Councils are responsible for:

  • Providing information on tourist facilities.*
