Malta Civil protection

 Central level

The Ministry for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement is responsible for:

  • Regulating civil protection matters and procedures;
  • Contingency plans to respond to disasters and national, industrial, and other emergencies;
  • Training facilities and courses for personnel;
  • Infrastructural set-up to ensure cooperation between organisations.


 

COVID-19 controls:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, together with the Environmental Health Directorate, performs checks with regards to people under quarantine, groups of people in public spaces and ensuring that certain businesses remain closed.


 

Local ​level

Local authorities are responsible for:

  • Supporting public order through co‑ordination of local police, fire, and emergency response services.
