 The majority of healthcare provision in Lebanon is from the private sector and often through participating NGOs. The central government is otherwise responsible for:

  • Public hospitals and primary healthcare services;
  • National program to reduce smoking;
  • Healthcare statistics, including data collection, management and dissemination;
  • National programme to combat HIV/AIDS;
  • Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear prevention and containment measures;
  • Medicines register;
  • Hospital accreditations;
  • Practitioner licenses;
  • Quality pharmaceuticals assurance programmes;
  • Resourcing healthcare facilities at the local and regional level;
  • Education and awareness programmes;
  • Programmes and projects funded by the World Bank, WHO, UNDP, EU and other international bodies.
