Central

 

  • Central government is responsible for:
    Governs the labour market;
  • Regulates labour relations;
  • Enforces labour law;
  • Labour inspectorate;
  • Represents Lebanon in the International Labour Organisation and Arab Labour Organisation;
  • Directs tripartite social dialogue;
  • Manages the National Employment Office:
  • Managing an electronic intermediation platform;
  • Conducts studies and labour market needs assessments;
  • Finding employment opportunities for jobseekers;
  • Central Administration of Statistics within the Council of Ministers oversees data collection, processing and dissemination of social and economic statistics at national level;
  • Patronage of Jordanian workers abroad and regulating foreign workers in the kingdom, supervision and determining the conditions of their countries relations;
  • Registration of trade unions and union employers;
  • There are still on-going disputes over a new draft labour law (originally submitted in 2012.)

 

Regional


Employment policies are highly centralised. Governorates and districts implement and enforce national policies and the Labour law within their areas of responsibility but otherwise have no exclusive competencies in employment.
