​Central

Central government’s objectives include:

  • Develop an advanced tourism industry capable of utilizing its comparative and competitive advantages through highly developed infrastructure facilities and superstructure services;
  • Develop archaeological and tourism sites and resources to enhance the tourism product, extend tourist length of stay achieve higher, tourism revenues and create new job opportunities;
  • Expand the role of the Private Sector in tourism investment and capital attraction within a framework of mutual cooperation between the public and the private sectors.;
  • Upgrade the quality of tourism services to the highest international standards;
  • Develop tourism awareness of the Kingdom's culture, heritage, civilizations, and archaeological resources within the framework of sustainable tourism development in harmony with local communities and non-governmental organizations;
  • Strengthen the Institutional setup of the tourism sector by upgrading legislation, laws, by-laws, regulations and human resources' development;
  • Establish and lead marketing and promotion campaigns in international and regional markets, strengthen international cooperation and promote domestic tourism;

Other competencies include:

  • Development of infrastructure and on building roads allowing better access to municipalities.
  • Establishing bilateral agreements;
  • International cooperation and promotion;
  • Executive programmes;
  • Supporting tourism businesses and producers;
  • Training programmes for tour guides;
  • Professional associations management;
  • Oversight of Hotel Standards;
  • Studies and research in tourism;
  • Information provision for consumers;
  • Preserve the tourist sites, and the development of these sites and invest directly and indirectly, including the organization, management and supervision of the implementation of the basic infrastructure and construction;
  • Facilitate transactions relating to tourists in cooperation with the competent authorities and tourist organizations inside and outside the Kingdom and to provide comfort and care for them;
  • Regulate investment and sponsorship and promotion of the tourism sector;
  • Work on the provision of manpower and technical capabilities necessary for careers in tourism to raise the level of performance and efficiency.

Local

Local government competencies are not prescribed for in law. Local government units have voluntary powers to support local producers and stakeholders, with tourism being a valuable part of the national economy. However, measures implemented will be constrained by financing.
