The EU has good relations with Jordan based on an advanced status partnership (2010). In the view of the EU, in a difficult regional environment, Jordan continues to exert a stabilising and moderating role while pursuing efforts to strengthen democracy and rule of law. It is the EU's objective to support Jordan in all of these endeavours.

The current agenda of EU-Jordan relations is laid out in an Action Plan under the European Neighbourhood Policy. The legal basis for the EU-Jordan relationship is the Association Agreement  which entered into force on 1 May 2002.

The EU aims to assist Jordan in the implementation of its home-grown reform process. The strategy and priorities for EU assistance are set out in the Single Support Framework adopted for 2014-2020 Jordan.

In response to the conflict in Syria and Iraq as well as the Da'esh threat, the EU regional strategy was adopted in March 2015, drawing together the different strands of current and future EU action covering diplomatic, political, humanitarian aid and stabilisation, counter-terrorism, peacebuilding measures and also covers neighbouring countries including Jordan.
