Central government is responsible for all public primary healthcare facilities and the following:

  • Improving the quality and safety of health care services and ensure its continuity;
  • Infrastructure development of primary and secondary health institutions;
  • Efficient and effective management of human resources;
  • Strive for a comprehensive health insurance for all Jordanians;
  • Efficient and effective management of financial resources;
  • Encourage patterns and behaviours of healthy living and promotion including physical activity;
  • Promote anti-smoking and any activities scientifically proven to improve health;
  • Raising the level of health of the population of the fight against diseases caused by malnutrition;
  • Educational materials;
  • Provide preventive health services to students, schools, kindergartens and nurseries;
  • Implementation of health-related activities for the elderly and supervision of programs;
  • Health and safety at work;
  • Implementation of programs related to the fight against the common non-communicable diseases such as heart disease and vascular health activities;
  • Policies pertaining to blood, cancer, diabetes and any other similar diseases can pose a danger to public health;
  • Primary healthcare facilities (approximately 1,245 of them) and regulating private sector hospitals and primary healthcare centres;​
