Slovakia Youth and sports

 

Central

For Sport:

  • Governing and coordinating sport issues;
  • Creating national policy, legislation, and financial conditions for the development of sport and physical culture.
  • Sport legislation;
  • The cooperation with non‑governmental organisations, and
  • The provision of grants to sport associations from the State budget.
  • Sport education, and
  • International cooperation.

For Youth Policy:

  • Preparation of conceptual and decisive materials in the field of youth policy.
  • Coordinates the activities of the Government of the Slovak Republic in planning and implementation of the youth policy.
  • Elaborates and updates long-term plans of the Ministry in the field of children and youth.
  • Provides technical, organisational, and content support to the activities of the Intragovernmental Working Group on Youth Policy,
  • Proposes direction of research in the field of children and youth, gives suggestions for further development of the analysis and implementation of the scientific researches and transfer of research outcomes into the youth policy measures
  • Drafts legislation and conditions of financial support of youth organisations, youth information centres, and other institutions providing services to children and youth
  • Is responsible for the implementation of the EU Erasmus + programme
  • Guarantees co-operation between governmental and local youth policy level through publishing of research, analytical and prognostic documents, organising work seminars, conferences and trainings for the representatives of regions, cities and municipalities along with youth workers and youth. Beside these activities ensuring communication between governmental, regional and local level there are also different financial support systems for development programmes.
  • Creates conditions for the work of children's and youth organisations, co-operates with them.
  • Coordinates the work of the Accreditation Committee for Youth Work Programmes, including issuing certificates for accredited institutions.

 

Regional

For Sport:

  • Elaborates a strategy for the development of sport in the region
  • Supports the construction, modernisation, reconstruction, maintenance and operation of sport infrastructure in the region in cooperation with national sports associations, sports organizations and municipalities within the region,
  • ensures the use of sports infrastructure in regional secondary schools, and ensures sport infrastructure to enable to use sport facilities for all citizens, focusing on youth,
  • might establish (together with sport associations and sports clubs) sport centers for the implementation of sport for all with a focus on youth  under the guidance of a trainer,
  • promotes organisation of sport competitions and sport facilities for disabled people,
  • creates conditions for sport activities of  disabled,
  • awards prizes to recognisable athletes and sport professionals of the Region.
     

For Youth Policy:

  • Regional self-governments ensure administrative and organisational issues related to youth policy.
  • Manage regional youth centres and youth hostels.
  • Establish centres for the treatment of drug addicts.
  • Advisory and coordination bodies within the regional authorities coordinate and support activities of all organisations and institutions that are stakeholders in youth policy, including charities, NGOs and youth groups.
  • Regional youth centres function in 3 regions, (Trenčín, Banská Bystrica and Košice).
  • Members of the the Regional Commission for the Work with Children and Youth are representatives of expert and social institutions involved in various aspects of youth life including schools, educational facilities, civic associations, church institutions as well as parents and representatives of the private sector.

 

Local

For Sport:

  • Developing the concept of physical culture;
  • The selection and training of sport talents;
  • Promoting the organisation of sporting events of local importance;
  • Creating the conditions for the development of sport for all;
  • Promotion of sport activities for disabled people;
  • Supporting initiative in sport activities;
  • Managing and controlling the use of funds provided for physical culture; and
  • Cooperating with the civil society organisations, Municipalities and other legal persons active in the field of physical culture.
     

For Youth Policy:

  • Support social life of youth through various services, mainly through information (ways of spending leisure time, accommodation, education, future career prospects.
  • Analyse activities of institutions and services for children and youth in the community.
  • Monitor and assess effectiveness of measures related to youth.
  • There are 332 municipal youth centres, 90 private youth centres and 54 Church founded youth centres.
