Central

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development is responsible for implementation legislation (see sources) and regulations.

The Ministry is divided into the following departments:

  • Department for pre-school and primary education;
  • Sector for secondary education and adult education
  • Department for International Cooperation and European Integration
  • Development and Higher Education
  • Division of Student Standards and investment
  • Legal Department
  • Division of Finance
  • Sector for Inspection
  • Department of Science
  • Sector for Technological Development, Technology Transfer and Innovation System
  • Specific internal units trained Secretariat of the Ministry and Cabinet Minister
  • Internal units outside the sector and the Secretariat of the Ministry are:
  • Group Internal Audit
  • Department for coordinating the work of school administration

The government adopted the Education Development Strategy (2012 to 2020).

The strategy is concerned with identifying the purpose, goals, directions, instruments and mechanisms of development of the education system in the Republic of Serbia until 2020.

The ministry is currently implementing the Scientific and Technological Development Strategy (2016 – 2020) Research for Innovation.

 

Regional

Autonomous provincial authorities are responsible for:

  • Establishing educational institutions (preschool, primary, secondary, higher education and adult education);
  • Funding;
  • Extending expert assistance to the Ministry of Education;
  • Monitoring the alignment of education;
  • Recommending higher education policies to the Government;
  • Issuing work permits to higher education institutions;
  • Carrying out administrative supervision;
  • Ensuring the exercise of the right to education in native language to persons belonging to national communities;
  • Regulating secondary and adult education.

The Vojvodina Provincial Secretariat for Education, Administration and National Communities regulates education in the territory.

 

Local

Municipal authorities are responsible for:

  • Establishing and managing institutions and organisations;
  • Maintaining and running schools and colleges
  • Funding
