Central level

The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality is responsible for:

  • Developing legislation (in accordance with the principles and rules of the common fisheries policy and international obligations);
  • Developing policy and promoting sustainable fishing;
  • Conducting disease prevention;
  • Issuing of permits.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency is responsible for:

  • Registering of fishing vessels
  • Issuing of fishing licences.

The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate inspects and certifies fishing vessels.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority is responsible for monitoring fish products to safeguard public health and animal health and welfare.
