The central government has overall responsibility in the following areas:
 
Youth
 
Ministry for Children and Social Affairs

 
  • Disadvantaged children and young people (consultancy services, pedagogical support);
  • Early childhood education and care (legislation)


 

Ministry of Culture

  • Children and youth culture (30 initiatives divided in three categories: small children, school-aged children, and young people)
  • Culture Suitcases for children with challenges” (The Ministry of Culture sets up a pool from which municipalities can apply for co-funding for the launch of culture suitcase initiatives aimed at children with challenges. Via their day care institution or school, children will receive a culture suitcase with an age-appropriate selection of books and films as well as a culture passport with invitations to participate in local cultural activities);
  • Films Suitcases” (the Films Suitcase is a suitcase that contains films, guidelines and materials for animation as well as an iPad with a stop motion animation program. It can be acquired by key cultural players such as libraries).
  • Supporting local cultural services;
  • Developing best practices catalogues;
  • Establishing a digital platform for culture;
  • A new and improved children and youth-culture portal;
  • The Network for Children and Culture.
     
Ministry of Higher Education and Science:

 
  • Erasmus + EU programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport

The Danish Youth Council (DUF) is an umbrella organisation for about 70 voluntary children and youth organisations, scouts, and church organisations.


 

Sports (Ministry of Culture)

  • Overall regulation and strategy;
  • Anti-doping laws and monitoring;
  • Initiatives combatting doping;
  • Management of elite sports and promotion of Danish sport abilities in competitions;
  • Support voluntary associations in sport sector.

  • Implementing national youth policy and delivering youth programmes;
  • Delivering youth activities on a discretionary and voluntary basis.

Municipal authorities are responsible for:

  • The youth policy relating to education, social services and culture;
  • Local sports activities;
  • Sport halls and fields.

Sports

  • The 16,000 Danish local sports clubs are very strong. They are managed by volunteers and can be supported by local authorities on a voluntary basis.
