In January 2014, the first Danish law for tourism came into force with the purpose of improving organisation and public promotion of tourism.
Central
The central government is responsible for:
- The overall tourism policy;
- The coordination of the Danish tourism policy;
- International policy tasks related to the EU;
- The international promotion of Denmark as a tourism destination, annual tourism analyses and information portals on Denmark(VisitDenmark, Wonderful Copenhagen);
- Creating and implementing the National Strategy for the Danish Tourism.
The Danish Coastal and Nature Tourism, Danish Business Conference Tourism and Danish City Tourism, co-ordinate various local programmes and are responsible mainly for generating national growth.

Regional
Regional authorities are responsible for:
- Facilitating and guaranteeing product development and innovation in tourism, via regional tourism development organisations.
Local
Municipal authorities are responsible for:
- Local promotion of tourism;
- Coordinating and delivering tourist services and information, as well as product development and marketing at the local level, via local tourist offices.
