Central

 

The central government is responsible for:

  • Management of the two operational programmes, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF). The programmes are allocated EUR 553 million over the period 2014-2020.
  • The general growth policy, including cross-coordination between the business, education, transport and employment policy (via the National Growth Strategy);
  • The Regional policy ministerial committee in charge of coordinating activities;
  • Ensuring coherence between national and regional growth efforts, launching initiatives implementing the national growth policy at regional level and overseeing regional business development strategies (Danish Growth Council);
  • Funding, through a State block grant;
  • Legislation on local and regional government and borders;
  • Framework, management, and monitoring of municipal and regional tasks, structure, and economy;
  • Management of the municipal and regional financial systems, grant and equalisation system, local taxes, VAT rebate and municipal and regional borrowing. Tasks include analysis activities, design of new laws and regulations and allocation of grants;
  • Economic forecasts of the Danish economy

 
Responsible ministries/bodies
 

Regional authorities are responsible for:

  • The preparation of regional development plans;
  • Co-financing business development activities;
  • Developing regional business development strategies, monitoring regional and local growth conditions,
  • Spatial planning, including raw material mapping and planning.
  • Rural development;
  • Development in peripheral areas

 

Local 

 

Municipal authorities are responsible for:

  • Local business service;
  • Spatial planning, including local plans;
  • Local development contributions;
  • Cross-municipal business cooperation.
