Czechia Immigration and Asylum

Central

The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for:

  • Facilitating the granting of international protection and the withdrawal of asylum or subsidiary protection, and
  • Determining which Member State of the European Union is competent to examine an application for granting international protection, unless this falls within the competence of Czechia.
  • Integration measures for migrants.
  • Asylum reception and housing.
  • Management of the Asylum Migration Integration Fund (AMIF).

Regional

There are 14 regional integration centers,  known as Centers for Support to the Integration of Foreigners. Ten of them are centrally managed by the Ministry of Interior; three centres are managed by non-profit organisations (in the Ústí nad Labem region, the Hradec Králové region and in Prague), while the one in the South Moravian region is managed by the regional authority.

They provide integration-related services such as  social, legal and employment counselling services, language, socio-cultural orientation and other courses, interpreting services, etc. They also provide a platform for regional consultation.

Regional authorities can devise and implement projects in response to calls for proposals under the AMIF.

Local

Some municipalities may have a stake in emergency projects enacted by the Ministry of Interior over a high influx of migrants.

Other competencies at the local level are delegated to NGOs active in the integration of migrants.

Local authorities devise and implement projects in response to calls for proposals under the AMIF, ESF funded national programmes and other funding programmes.
