Central
Central government is responsible for:
- Agricultural policy.
- Water management, except preservation of natural water accumulation, preservation of water sources and preservation of water quality
- The food industry.
- National Rural Network
- Forest management
- Inspections
- Veterinary Administration
The Ministry of Agriculture does not directly manage agricultural produce but determines the framework for producers to operate in.
Regional
Regional authorities can devise and implement projects according to calls for proposals within the confines of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development or other funds allocated under the National Rural Development Programme. While these are relayed via a national managing authority, they are managed at the regional or local level.
Local
Regional authorities can devise and implement projects according to calls for proposals within the confines of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development or other funds allocated under the National Rural Development Programme. While these are relayed via a national managing authority, they are managed at the regional or local level.
Additionally, LEADER groups (a co-ordination body consisting in both public and private sector representatives) have dedicated funding under EAFRD and can devise and implement projects in Agriculture.
