Central


 

The central government is responsible for:

  • The overall legislation (in accordance with the EU law).
  • Managing the operational programme of the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) in Bulgaria.
  • Co-ordination of EMFF projects at regional and local levels.
  • Promotion of environmentally sustainable, resource efficient fisheries.
  • Implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy.
  • Licensing
  • Enforcing restrictions on fishing methods.
  • Research into aquaculture and methods.
  • Vessel Monitoring Systems


 


 

Regional

Regional authorities are responsible for:

  • Devising and implementing projects under calls for proposals in accordance with the operational programme of Bulgaria under the EMFF to sustain and develop fisheries in their areas of responsibility.


 

 

Local ​

 Local government units are responsible for:

  • Hosting fishing boats and processing their catch.
  • Promotion of sustainable fishing methods and enforcing national fisheries policies.
  • Devising and implementing projects at the local level under the EMFF operational programme.
  • Supporting individual fisheries acquire funding from the EMFF programme.
  • Licensing.
