Central
The central government is responsible for:
- The overall legislation (in accordance with the EU law).
- Managing the operational programme of the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) in Bulgaria.
- Co-ordination of EMFF projects at regional and local levels.
- Promotion of environmentally sustainable, resource efficient fisheries.
- Implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy.
- Licensing
- Enforcing restrictions on fishing methods.
- Research into aquaculture and methods.
- Vessel Monitoring Systems
Regional
Regional authorities are responsible for:
- Devising and implementing projects under calls for proposals in accordance with the operational programme of Bulgaria under the EMFF to sustain and develop fisheries in their areas of responsibility.
Local β
Local government units are responsible for:
- Hosting fishing boats and processing their catch.
- Promotion of sustainable fishing methods and enforcing national fisheries policies.
- Devising and implementing projects at the local level under the EMFF operational programme.
- Supporting individual fisheries acquire funding from the EMFF programme.
- Licensing.
