Central

 

The central government is responsible for:

  • The overall legislation (in accordance with the principles and rules of Economic, social and territorial cohesion policy and international obligations).
  • Cross-border co-operation.
  • Trans-national cooperation programme in the South East European Space.
  • Minimizing isolation by improving access and transport links.
  • Support for relations between urban and rural areas.
  • Management of Swiss contributions.

 

Management of the European Structural funds including:

  • The European Regional Development
  • The European Social Fund
  • European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
  • European Maritime and Fisheries Fund
  • European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument.

 

Regional


District authorities are responsible for:

  • Developing strategies and co-ordinating projects under the various EU funds at the local level.
  • Carrying out national policies in their area of responsibility.
  • Promotion of cohesion and development of access and communication networks.

 

Local ​

 Municipal authorities are responsible for:

  • Setting up priorities
  • Exercising a consultative role via the NAMBR (national association of municipalities in BG), representation at the CoR, Brussels and the Congress (Council of Europe).
