Central 

The Ministry of Transports and Road Infrastructure is responsible for:

  • Setting the transport policy at national level,
  • Developing strategy and specific regulations for developing and harmonizing the transport activities within the general policy of the Government
  • Performing the role of state authority in transport.
  • Roads
  • Airports and Air traffic
  • Ports and Naval traffic
  • Rail transport

The Moldova 2020 National Development Strategy specifically addresses the need for quality road infrastructure in the country.

Regional

District (Rayons) Level 2 authorities are responsible for:

  • The construction, administration and district level repair of roads and road infrastructure;
  • Passenger transportation organization, administration bus stations at district level;


Local

Local municipalities (Level 1) are responsible for:

  • Construction, maintenance and lighting of streets and local public roads;
  • Local public transport.
