The Ministry of Employment, Vocational Training, Information Technology and Communication is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing national policy and regulations on employment, vocational training;
  • Designing and implementing a national strategy to meet the skills needs of businesses in order to improve their performance and competitiveness;
  • Developing vocational training opportunities to improve workers' employability and promote integration into employment;
  • Ensuring that the legislative and regulatory framework governing vocational training in the public and private sectors is adapted to take account of economic, social and cultural change and that it is applied[S1] .

The Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP II) 2011-2020 aims to develop technical and vocational training adapted to social demand and the needs of the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

The Global Partnership for Education programme also includes improving the quality of teaching in primary education by (i) enhancing the quality of pre-service teacher training and (ii) improving the learning environment in primary and lower secondary schools.

World Bank loan funding is in place to develop the Vocational Education Sector in Mauritania to prepare it for an industrialising economy. Grants have been supplied from 2001 to date providing apprenticeships and access to TVET Institutions. Implementing the TVET Sector Plan for 2010 – 2020.
