Mauritania Education

 Central

 The central government Ministry of National Education is responsible for primary and secondary education delivery. The Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research is responsible for tertiary level.

The Ministry for National Education is responsible for the Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP II) 2011-2020, which focuses on:

  • achieving universal primary education of good quality; 
  • pursuing education system reforms, and;
  • improving the relevance and quality of post-primary education.

Mauritania joined the Global Partnership for Education in 2002. The partnership works with the ministry and provides grant funding to:

  • improve the quality of teaching in primary education, 
  • promote equitable access to lower secondary education and,
  • strengthen the capacity of the education sector.
     

Regional

 Some powers are devolved to the regional level for the delivery of primary education.

 

Local ​


The municipality is responsible for maintaining and equipping primary school buildings.
