Mauritania Employment

Central

 Ministry of Employment, Vocational Training, Information Technology and Communication is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing national policy and regulations on employment, vocational training;
  • Designing and implementing a national strategy to meet the skills needs of businesses in order to improve their performance and competitiveness;
  • Developing vocational training opportunities to improve workers' employability and promote integration into employment;
  • Ensuring that the legislative and regulatory framework governing vocational training in the public and private sectors is adapted to take account of economic, social and cultural change and that it is applied.


The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Modernisation of Administration is responsible for legislation, regulations, policy and strategy related to labour, social protection, workers’ rights etc.

The Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper for Mauritania 2011 – 2016 includes a number of elements related to:

  • Promotion of employment;
  • Promotion of good business climate;
  • Access to finance or Small and emerging businesses;
  • Promoting economic activities in rural areas;
  • Developing infrastructure to support economic growth.

 

Regional

 The sector is highly centralised, regional and local level authorities have limited powers to develop and implement labour and employment strategy.

 

 

Local ​

 

 Wage policy and operational procedures designed at central level are implemented at local level.
