Central

The Minister for Justice and Equality oversees:

Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service

Implementing the policy in relation to the admission of non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationals and granting, where appropriate, Irish citizenship;

Responsible for International Protection and Asylum procedures.

Garda National Immigration Bureau

Border control, registrations, granting permission to remain, deportations and investigations relating to illegal immigration and human trafficking.

Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner

Deals with asylum applications in the first instance;
Leads and co-ordinates migrant integration policy across other government departments, agencies and services.

Refugee Appeals Tribunal

Decides appeals of those asylum seekers whose applications for refugee status has not been recommended.

Reception and Integration Agency

Accommodates asylum seekers while their applications for asylum are processed;
Coordinates the provision of services (e.g. health, education, etc.) to asylum seekers;
Facilitates the voluntary return home of destitute nationals from certain EU states, and to accommodate suspected victims of human trafficking.
