Central

  • Ensure the appropriate policies and necessary structures and resources are in place;
  • Champion the tourism sector and influence other stakeholders;
  • Support innovation and product development in the Irish tourism industry;
  • Support competitiveness, enterprise capability and sustainability in Irish tourism;
  • Optimise the tourism budget and implementation structures;
  • Oversee the corporate governance of Fáilte Ireland;
  • Develop, monitor and review the overall policy framework for tourism, development and structures;
  • Review and facilitate the delivery mechanisms for state support for tourism (including sports tourism and festivals and cultural events); the enhancement of quality and standards (including the framework for the registration and approval of visitor accommodation under the Tourist Traffic Acts); and enterprise development, human resource and training issues in the industry

Responsible ministries/bodies

Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport

Agencies (Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland[1]), under the aegis of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, are established to deal with the administration of the tourism policy.

 

Local 

  • Support leisure activities, artistic and cultural activities, general environmental and heritage protection which can be linked with tourism as they consider necessary or desirable to promote the interest of the local community.
