Regional

  • The provincial people’s assembly, in coordination with the municipal people’s assemblies, takes part in any social action to provide support for children, people with disabilities, older people and people in need.
  • It also helps to care for homeless people and those with mental health problems. The province, in conjunction with the municipalities, undertakes and implements any epidemiological prevention measures.
  • It oversees implementation of health prevention measures.
  • It adopts any measures to encourage the establishment of structures associated with the monitoring and hygiene of establishments receiving the public and consumer products.
  • In cooperation with local authorities, regional authorities take part in social assistance measures for children, the disabled, the elderly, and the needy, and support the homeless and the mentally ill.

Local

  • Under national rules, the municipality is responsible for providing and maintaining health centres and treatment rooms. Insofar as its resources allow, the municipality also provides assistance for structures and bodies responsible for young people, culture, sports and leisure, not least by promoting development of voluntary associations.
  • Introduces social assistance measures and supports underprivileged social groups
