Regional

• According to the third provincial government act, the provincial people’s assembly contributes to the creation of cultural, sporting, leisure and youth facilities and to the protection and preservation of historical heritage, in consultation with the municipalities and any other institutions responsible for promoting those activities or associations active in the field. It assists and participates in sporting, cultural and youth activity programmes.
• In cooperation with the competent technical services, the provincial people’s assembly contributes to the protection and preservation of cultural, artistic and historical heritage in coordination with the municipalities and any relevant institutions and associations.
• The provincial people’s assembly pursues any measures to promote historical, artistic and cultural heritage, in coordination with the relevant institutions and associations, and proposes any measures needed to develop and protect it.
• In addition, in accordance with the inter-ministerial order of 8 October 1974 laying down the conditions for the organisation and running of provincial directorates responsible for information and culture, the provincial directorate for information and culture is in charge of promoting and developing any activities that may help realise the full potential of culture and information in the province. It oversees and coordinates the cultural and information activities within the public institutions and bodies in the province.

Local

• ​It contributes to maintenance of mosques and Koranic schools on its territory and ensures the preservation of cultural heritage.
• In connection with the protection of architectural heritage, the municipality is responsible for:
  - the preservation and protection of sites and monuments on account of their purpose and their historical and aesthetic value,
  - the safeguarding of aesthetic and architectural character and adoption of a homogeneous housing style in agglomerations.
• According to Art. 94 of the municipal government act, the president of the municipal people’s assembly ensures the conservation of historical and cultural heritage, and the symbols of the National Liberation revolution.
