Central

The Ministry of National Education is responsible for:

  • Vocational education and training (VET) policy  at the secondary level;
  • Cooperating in the area of policy development with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (art schools), the Ministry of Agriculture (agricultural schools), the Ministry of the Environment (forestry schools), the Ministry of Justice (inmate education and correctional education) and other ministries responsible for particular occupations;
  • The quality and organisation of vocational education;
  • Setting out curricula (in consultation with the relevant ministries);
  • Promoting life-long learning.

 

The Department of Strategy, Qualifications, and Vocational Education (Departament Strategii, Kwalifikacji i Kształcenia Zawodowego) of the Ministry of National Education is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the implementation of the life‑long learning policy;
  • Overseeing the implementation of the ET 2020 framework;
  • Developing framework curricula for public vocational schools.

 

The National Centre for Supporting Vocational and Continuing Education (Krajowy Ośrodek Wspierania Edukacji Zawodowej i Ustawicznej - KOWEZiU) is responsible for:

  • Coordinating activities related to professional development of teachers from VET  and adult schools;
  • Implementing programmes for  educational transformation;
  • Collecting and disseminating information related to VET.

 

The Centre for Education Development (Ośrodek Rozwoju Edukacji) (an agency of the Ministry of Education) is responsible for:

  • supporting the development of a national system of teacher training in line with the state educational policies.

 

The Council for Social Dialogue (Rada Dialogu Społecznego) (the main institutional platform for social partners) acts both as a consultative body and as initiator of legal measures.

 

The Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy are in charge of qualification standards.

 

Regional

Regions are responsible for:

  • Running some vocational schools;
  • Managing the regional operational programmes and its support of VET
  • Cooperation with the relevant educational bodies to harmonise vocational training and employment needs.

The Labour Fund supports evaluation at regional level.

The Regional Commissions for Social Dialogue are in charge of the discussion of social and economic matters crucial for the regions, including issues regarding education organisation and financing;

 County authorities are responsible for:

  • Vocational schools.
