​Central

The central Government is responsible for:

Youth Policy

  • Ensuring the development and the coordinated implementation of the single State policy in the field of youth;
  • Legal framework provided at the national level; and
  • The Youth Advisory Council provides advice on the development and implementation of the co-ordinated youth policy.

Sport Policy

Ministry of Education and Science is the main ministry responsible; it:

  • Implements a unified State policy;
  • Develops draft regulatory acts;
  • Implements purposeful international cooperation and ensures Latvian representation in international sports organisations;
  • Develops and maintains sport facilities;
  • Organises sport competitions; and
  • Provides for financial resources.

    The Latvian Youth Council is in charge of:
  • Promoting the importance of youth organisations, the development of cooperation and public participation in political processes;
  • Advocating for youth policy based on young people's needs, promoting youth participation in decision-making, and supporting the development of youth organisations by enhancing access to information and government funding.

Local

Local authorities are responsible for:

Youth Policy

  • Implementing the State policy;
  • Local authorities may also establish an institutional system in order to ensure youth employment.

Sport Policy

  • Developing and maintaining sport facilities;
  • Promoting sport and a healthy lifestyle of residents.
  • Organising sport competitions; and
  • Providing financial resources.
