Central

The central government is responsible for:

  • Setting the framework for tourism policy
  • International marketing of tourism.
  • Policy development and tourism statistics.
  • VisitSweden:
  • The promotion of the country.

 

Regional

There are tourism bodies at the regional level that act independently of the other administrative levels. County authorities are largely autonomous in matters relating to tourism and devise and implement measures on a voluntary basis.

The regions have extended competencies in regional development, and strategies and rural development plans aim benefit the tourism sector at the regional level.


 

Local

There are tourism bodies at the local level that act independently of other administrative levels. While adhering to national policies, municipal authorities are largely autonomous in matters relating to tourism.
