Central level

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing is responsible for developing, driving, implementing and evaluating the development and cohesion policies, including regional development, as well as the definition of infrastructure policies in the areas of construction, real estate and transport.

Management of the following EU structural funds:

  • European Social Fund (ESF)
  • European Regional Development Fund
  • The Cohesion Fund
  • The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund
  • The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
  • EEA Grants

For each there is a managing body that co-ordinates programmes and projects across all government levels.

Regional authorities can devise and implement programmes to further develop economic, social and territorial cohesion utilising EU structural funds via the national managing authorities.

Local level

Local governments and intermunicipal entities can devise and implement programmes to further develop economic, social and territorial cohesion utilising EU structural funds via the national managing authorities.

Parishes are responsible for

  • participating, as agreed with the municipality, in the process of municipal plans for land management;
  • Collaborating, with the municipality of spatial planning;
  • Enabling consultation by stakeholders of municipal plans for land use planning
