  • Research, development and innovation in agriculture, forestry and food, and
  • The protection, promotion and support of regional products, including geographical designations of origin and quality.
  • Azores has its own Rural Development Programme in accordance with the Common Agricultural Policy, EU.

Madeira:

  • Agriculture, forestry and animal farming;
  • Legal status and land use;
  • Land policy and management, and
  • Ecological balance.

Local level

Local governments can formulate LEADER groups (consisting in a range of public and private sector stakeholders) who can devise and implement Community Led Local Development plans.

In accordance with national rural development programmes, local governments can apply for funding and propose projects to benefit the agricultural sector.

Local governments otherwise promote and support their constituent agricultural producers and service providers.
