The EU- Georgia Association Agenda 2014 sets out the collaboration agenda in the fields of transport and energy. 

With regards to transport, the Association Agenda :

  • Steps up efforts to implement the EU-Georgia Common Aviation Area Agreement
  • Aids in efforts to fully implement the digital tachograph;
  • Provides for the development of infrastructure, in particular through implementation of priority projects of the EaP transport network.

The TEN-T Regulation defines the connections of the TEN-T to the transport networks of neighbouring countries including Georgia. It provides for targeted EU co-operation with the countries concerned and enables limited co-financing of cross-border projects.

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia together with the Legal Entities under Public Law leads the following EU funded projects in:

  • Logistic Processes and Motorways of the Sea II (LOGMOS) ( EU TRACECA[1] Program)Model Highway Initiative Baku-Tbilisi-Batumi-Trabzon (MHI BTBT)”

 

With regards to Energy Cooperation, the Association Agenda aims to:

  • Complete negotiations concerning Georgia's formal accession to the Energy Community;
  • Take steps towards the integration of Georgia's energy market with that of the EU, and strengthening Georgia' energy security and regulatory convergence
  • Reinforce Georgia's energy infrastructure network and interconnections, in particular: – with regard to electricity, continuing the implementation of the "Black Sea Regional Transmission Network" project, including by starting operations of the 400kV connection Georgia (Akhaltsikhe) - Turkey (Borchkha), strengthening interconnections with Azerbaijan and Armenia, and reinforcing Georgia's transmission grid; – with regard to natural gas, facilitating the implementation of the expansion of the South Caucasus gas pipeline on the Georgian territory;
  • Improve energy efficiency and developing the use of renewable energy sources. 


Georgia is an observer at the Energy Community
Georgia is a member of the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership.
Georgia is also a member for INOGATE programme which are technical assistance programmes funded by the European Union.

[1] A technical assistance programme to develop the transport corridor between Europe and Asia across the Black Sea, the countries of the South Caucasus, the Caspian Sea and the Central Asian countries. Since its launch in 1993, TRACECA has financed 62 technical assistance and 14 investments projects. TRACECA aims to support the political and economic independence of the Partner Countries by enhancing their capacity to access European and world markets through alternative transport routes.
