  • Protect and preserve of unique landscapes and ecosystems, rare and endangered species of flora and fauna characteristic to Georgia, biodiversity, air, water, land and mineral resources;
  • Administer and regulate of activities related to usage of natural resources, waste management, chemical, nuclear and radiation safety.

  • Defining policy that ensures a safe
    environment for the public health.

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure

  • Implement regional development policy
  • Coordinate and develop water supply and sanitation systems
  • Manage the state-owned water service company Ltd United Water Supply Company of Georgia. 


 Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia

  • Maintain good agricultural practices, biodiversity and environmental sustainability
  • Gene bank development/management for conservation of agro-diversity and endemic species
  • Promoting climate smart agriculture (CSA) practice.
  • Monitoring, supervision and state control over drinking water safety parameters and compliance with established drinking water quality standards.


Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MENR)

  • Issues licenses for natural resources consumption.


National Environmental Agency (legal entity of public law under Ministry of Environment Protection)

  • Assess geodynamic processes, engineering and geo-ecological conditions
  • Prepare and disseminate documents, forecasts, warnings on existing and expected hydro-meteorological and geodynamic processes, including environment pollution conditions
  • Create database of engineering infrastructure of coastal zones,
  • Manage a database on forest resources, mineral deposits and exposures, engineering infrastructure, environmental information.
  • Provide civil aviation with meteorological information.

Local

Local Self-Governance Institutions are responsible for the management of water resources of local importance but they generally have very limited competences; water management is highly centralized.
Municipalities are responsible for

  • Cleaning of streets, parks, squares and other public places within the municipal area, the territory planting,
  • Solid (household) waste collection and disposal;
  • Water supply (including the technical water supply)
  • Sewerage provision; development of the local reclamation system;

The local self-government authority is entitled to take actions in the manner defined in for the purpose of environmental protection
