Tourism policy

Central Government
The sub-ministry for Tourism has replaced the Cyprus Tourism organisation in 2018. Its responsibilities include:
  • Formulating and implementing an overall national tourism policy and legislation in the field of tourism;
  • Defining touristic locations;
  • Promoting Cyprus as an international tourism destination;
  • Supporting tourism investment;
  • Promoting training activities in relation to tourism;
  • Establishing and maintaining the registry of touristic businesses;
  • The development of new tourist related products;
  • Monitoring the tourim sector.

 
Responsible ministries/bodies

 

 
Province Level​ 

 

The Province offices of the sub-ministry of Tourism are situated in the following cities and areas across the island:

  • Lefkosia (Nicosia),
  • Lemesos (Limassol),
  • Larnaka (Larnaca),
  • Agia Napa,
  • Protaras,
  • Pafos (Paphos),
  • Kato Pafos (Kato Paphos),
  • Larnaka Airport (Larnaca Airport),
  • Pafos Airport (Paphos Airport),
  • Lemesos Port (Limassol Port),
  •  Germasogeia,
  • Platres
  • Polis Chrysochous.

Moreover, there are six inspectors' offices operating in Lefkosia, Lemesos, Larnaka, Pafos, Agia Napa and Polis Chrysochous.


 
Local SAA

Local authorities, both municipalities and communities, are responsible for promoting the towns as tourist destinations.
 
Larger municipalities employ full time tourist officers, and, in some areas, several municipalities and communities unite in common tourist associations to promote their area or district.
