  • Implements and administers systems promoting the production and use of renewable energy.

Åland competences

  • Resources management;
  • Central authorities have legislative competence in the field of nuclear energy, nevertheless, the consent of the Åland Government is required for the construction, possession and operation of a nuclear power plant and the handling and stockpiling of materials in Åland.

  • Distribute electricity and district heating;
  • Issue environmental permits needed by smaller plants and facilities;
  • The bigger municipalities have their own energy production companies.
