  • Guides performance , preparedness, organisation and regional planning;
  • Maintains control, alarm, telecommunications and information systems, equipment and material;
  • Provide training, information, awareness raising, and research;
  • Collects statistics;
  • Oversees voluntary organisations, the fire protection fund, and the emergency services college;
  • Fire and accident prevention;
  • Constructional civil defence;
  • International assistance;
  • Contingency planning;
  • Oversee the governance of the State Security Networks company. and Finland's public authority network;
  • Award lifesaving medals and Finnish Red Cross badges of merit.

The police are responsible for public order and security and for the fight against crime

The National Police Board supervises the private security sector and grants licenses for those engaged in private security services. It also supervises and guides the private security sector at national level.

The Border Guard is responsible for effective border management and command of maritime search and rescue.

 

Regional State Administrative Agencies (State authorities)

  • Fire and rescue services;
  • Coordinate preparedness in their regions and organise preparedness exercises;
  • Supervise rescue services, their coverage and their quality within their area of operation;
  • Coordinate contingency planning and support contingency planning in municipalities;
  • Organise regional National Defence Courses;
  • Promote security planning in local and regional administrations;

  • Municipalities are jointly responsible for rescue services in the 22 rescue services regions;
  • The municipalities of the same rescue service region must agree on the organisation of rescue services;
  • Rescue departments carry out the duties of rescue services in their respective regions.
