Syria Environment and fight against climate change

The Ministry of the Environment, which became a fully-fledged ministry four years ago, oversees all environmental protection activities, including the fight against climate change. The Ministry also in charge of water supplies and measures tackling desertification.​

 

Regional

 

Under Article 30 of the local administration law, the governorates, districts and subdistricts can act in the area of desertification and climate change, but under the oversight of national government. The scope of these powers is unclear.

 

Local

 

Under the local administration law, municipalities have certain powers in the area of desertification and climate change, under the oversight of district and subdistrict authorities. The scope of these powers is unclear.
