It is to be noted that historical sites and antiquities are of great importance in the narrative used by both parties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel controls a large number of historic sites in Palestine, limiting the Palestinian Authorities' ability to develop tourism and to protect antiquities and historical sites from theft and vandalism. The inability to put in place proper security arrangements for tourists render Palestinian tourist sites less appealing for tourists, hampering the implementation of government plans to develop tourism in Palestine.
