Central

The central government is responsible for:

  • The overall policy, legislation and implementation;
  • Development in education sector;
  • Inspections and standards;
  • Research;
  • Ensuring functioning and development of education system in Belarus;
  • Co-ordination of subordinated bodies and agencies in education sector;
  • Teaching plans and curricula;
  • Identification of Foreign diplomas and qualifications.
  • Regional Education For All (EFA) plans in accordance with the national Strategy for Development and Integration;
  • Raising quality of school meals.


Regional

Regional authorities are responsible for:

  • Local subsidiaries of Higher Education institutions established at the regional level.
  • Issuing licenses for secondary schools, lyceums and gymnasiums.
  • Co-ordination of programmes at the local level in areas of responsibility.


Local

Local authorities are responsible for:

  • Pre-school and out of school establishments;
  • Nurseries;
  • Primary schools;
  • Secondary education schools, Lyceums and Gymnasiums;
  • The assignment of scholarships for students;
  • Devise and implement programmes authorised by the central government;
  • Local authorities (mainly at the district level) are heavily involved in the education sector. Individual district education portals and websites are displayed by region here.
