Greece Trans-EU networks

Central

The Department for the Planning and the Development of Transport, under the auspices of the ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is responsible for

  • Monitoring and implementing the trans-European networking policy.
  • Promoting proposals for the approval of co-funded actions through CEF, Cohesion Fund and other financial tools (Technical Assistance, CROCODILE2, I-HeERO)
  • Developing and implementing national policies concerning the creation of appropriate institutional frameworks, and contributing to policy-making within the European and international framework concerning the development of high quality and competitive transport, telecommunications and postal services;
  • For participating in international organisations and other transnational bodies that aim to develop trans-European transports;
  • Planning and supervising the implementation of the Trans-European transport networks policy;
  • Updating and managing the databases related to the Trans-European transport networks policy;
  • Participating in the development of trans-European road networks;
  • Maintaining a national and trans-European registrar of all road projects;
  • Participating in the development of Trans-European sea/port infrastructure;
  • Improving the interconnectedness between regional, national, European and international transport networks;

The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change is responsible for:

  • The monitoring of European and International legislation on minerals resources and energy;
  • The harmonisation of the Greek legal order with the relevant international and European action on minerals and energy.

The Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the Regulation EC1082/2006 that establishes European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation.


 

Regional

Regional authorities are responsible for:

  • Setting up and participating in national, international and European networks of  regional authorities, aiming at the coordinated and targeted promotion of their objectives, especially trans-national and trans-regional territorial cooperation  as well as the dynamic participation in respective foreign networks or programmes and initiatives;
  • Establishing international and European networks for the protection of  water resources;
  • Implementing international and European collaborations under the international, European Union and national law, according to the scope of their responsibilities and subject to the country's international obligations, as following:
    • Programmes and initiatives of international and European organisations;
    • Mission exchanges and organisation of events;
    • Twinnings;
    • European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation.
  • Approving twinning of local schools with schools abroad.

 

Local

Municipal authorities are responsible for:

  • Setting up and participating in national, international and European networks of  municipal authorities, aiming at the coordinated and targeted promotion of their objectives, especially trans-national and inter-municipal territorial cooperation  as well as the dynamic participation in respective foreign networks or programmes and initiatives;
  • Implementing international and European collaborations under the international, European Union and national law, according to the scope of their responsibilities and subject to the country's international obligations, as following:
    • Programmes and initiatives of international and European organisations; 
    • Mission exchanges and organisation of events;
    • Twinning of cities' initiatives aiming to promote their economic, cultural, educational and social relations;
    • European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation in order to facilitate and promote cross-border, trans-national and/or interregional cooperation with the exclusive aim of strengthening the economic and social cohesion.
