Central administration and de-concentrated branches

The development of the transport networks and policies is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport (General Directorate of Railways, Ports and Airports Construction, the Turkish State Railways, the General Directorate of State Airports Administration), the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement (General Directorate of Turkish Highways), and the Undersecretariat for Maritime Affairs. Until its incorporation into the Ministry of Development in 2011, the previously independent State Planning Organisation also played a major role.

Together, these organisations are responsible for:

  • The road network;
  • The railway network;
  • Maritime transport;
  • Air transport;
  • The energy network (electricity, gas network); and
  • Telecommunication networks.
