Central level
Ministry for Energy and Water Management, which has been created in 2017, is responsible for:
- Development of renewables;
- Implementation of energy and water policies;
- Water and energy services.
The Energy & Water Agency, which is a Government Agency established in 2016, is responsible for:
- Formulation and adaptation of policies related to energy and water;
- Ensuring security, sustainability and affordability of resources for final consumers;
- Implementation of EU policies on energy efficiency, renewables, gas security, among others.
The Malta Resources Authority, which is a public body set up in 2000 through the Malta Resources Act, is responsible for:
- Sustainable energy policy and legislation;
- Energy supply;
- Energy efficiency;
- Energy labelling;
- Emission trading operations;
- Promotion of renewables;
- Energy sector licenses.
Regional level
The Regional Councils are responsible for:
- Adopting measures that increase energy efficiency;
- The provision of assistance to local councils within the region to benefit and successfully manage programmes which are funded by the European Union.
