Central level
The Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government , Culture Directorate is responsible for:
- Provision of policy, direction, and advice on the arts,heritage and audiovisuals;
- Management of two programmes related to culture, arts and the creative industries, namely the Culture Pass and the Cinema Digitisation Scheme;
- Preparation of contributions for public debate and discussion;
- Liaising with the relevant entities and stakeholders on all matters related to Malta's cultural and creative sectors.
The Directorate is advised by Arts Council Malta, which is responsible for:
- Boosting professionalisation of arts;
- Promoting Malta's culture through all forms of creative expression;
- Increased accessibility to arts;
- Provision of a single service point for consultation and communication purposes;
- Promoting the cultural heritage nationally and internationally.
Regional level
The Regional Councils are responsible for:
- The organisation of cultural activities that promote the localities of the region.
- The provision of assistance to local councils within the region to benefit and successfully manage programmes which are funded by the European Union.
Local level
The Local
Councils are responsible for:
- Organisation
of cultural activities that promote the locality;
- Measures to
safeguard the local identity, local historical and cultural heritage,
traditions and folklore;
- Assistance to artists and musicians so that they
are able to develop their talents (in the framework of regulations made by the
Minister).
