  • Implements fisheries policy in accordance with EU law:
  • Prepare of legislation;
  • Finance of support measures and monitor their implementation;
  • Steer and support research and advisory services.

Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (deals with matters concerning fisheries)

  • Serve as regional authorities responsible for fisheries matters (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry);
  • Represent interests of the fisheries sector in water and environmental permit processes;
  • Issue permits and bans under the Fishing Act;
  • Restore waterways so that they meet the requirements of the fisheries sector
  • Develop recreational fishing and fishing tourism;
  • Provide funding for fisheries industry
  • Promote professional fishing and monitor catch in sea areas; Supervise implementation of the Fishing Act and the Common Fisheries Policy of the EU.
