The 2010 Spring European Council expected to take a decision on a possible new European strategy to follow the Lisbon Strategy for growth and jobs, launched in 2000. To enrich the debate about the future of the Strategy, the Committee of the Regions launched a Consultation of European Regions and Cities on A New Strategy for Sustainable Growth – A New Lisbon Strategy after 2010. Over 80 local and regional authorities and associations replied to this call stating that the new Strategy should look at social and environmental aspects not less than to competitiveness ones, and be more effectively managed with their permanent involvement.
During the Open Days workshop, the results of the CoR Consultation were presented and discussed with representatives of the Committee of the Regions, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Swedish and Spanish Presidency.
